The biological treatment of wastewater in the sewage treatment plant is often accomplished using conventional activated sludge systems. These systems generally require large surface areas for treatment and biomass separation units due to the generally poor settling properties of the sludge. In recent years, new technologies have been developed to improve settlability. The use of aerobic granular sludge technology is one of them.

Solid Oxide Fuel Cell: The Next Most Efficient, Economical, And Cleanest Energy Converter For Small Power Plant
Fuel cells are an old technology. Problems have plagued their introduction. Present material science may make them a reality soon in specialized applications. The Solid Oxide Fuel Cell appears to be the most promising technology for small electric power plants over 1 kW. The Direct Alcohol Fuel Cell appears to be the most promising as a battery replacement for portable applications such cellular phones and laptop computers. The ENEA (Italian National Agency for New Technology) has built the roadmap about fuel cell; together with European commission which stated that, in the future, fuel cell is integrated to all energy converters, due to its efficient and eco-friendly (see the road map).
